The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national-level entrance exam in India for admission to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs at National Law Universities (NLUs) and other participating institutions. Here are the key details about CLAT UG:

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification:

Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination or equivalent with at least 45% marks (40% for SC/ST candidates) from a recognized board.

Students appearing for their 10+2 examination in the same year are also eligible to apply, provided they meet the eligibility criteria at the time of admission.

Age Limit:

There is no upper age limit for appearing in CLAT UG.

Exam Structure

Mode of Exam: CLAT UG is conducted in a pen-and-paper (offline) mode.

Duration: The total duration of the exam is 2 hours.

Number of Questions: The exam consists of 120 multiple-choice questions.

Sections:

English Language: 22-26 questions (20% weightage)

Current Affairs, including General Knowledge: 28-32 questions (25% weightage)

Legal Reasoning: 28-32 questions (25% weightage)

Logical Reasoning: 22-26 questions (20% weightage)

Quantitative Techniques: 10-14 questions (10% weightage)

Marking Scheme:

Each correct answer is awarded 1 mark.

Each incorrect answer carries a penalty of 0.25 marks.

Syllabus

The syllabus for CLAT UG includes the following areas:

English Language: Reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, sentence correction, para jumbles, etc.

Current Affairs, including General Knowledge: National and international events, important dates, current happenings, awards, sports, etc.

Legal Reasoning: Legal propositions, legal principles, application of law, and logical analysis.

Logical Reasoning: Logical sequences, syllogisms, analogies, logical arguments, critical reasoning, etc.

Quantitative Techniques: Basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, data interpretation, and numerical ability.
